At what age do female dogs reach menopause?

Because dogs vary, some females keep having periods on and off into old age and never truly menopause, while a few may stop around 7–8 years, after which they become infertile and can no longer breed.

A dog’s first heat is at 6–8 months, then once each spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov). The flow is light and they usually lick it clean; if you worry about soiling furniture, use a dog diaper or have her spayed.
