Dogs cannot drink tea, especially strong tea. Tea contains small amounts of caffeine and theobromine, toxic substances a dog’s body cannot metabolize; they stimulate the nerves and heart and cause overexcitement, convulsions, vomiting and other poisoning reactions. Also, the theophylline in tea irritates the gut, and dogs with weaker intestines may get diarrhea after drinking it.

Finally, dogs simply don’t like tea, so there is no need to give it to them; normally just offer plain boiled water to keep them hydrated.
