How do you use a feline distemper (panleukopenia) test strip?

The common feline distemper, or panleukopenia, test strips are used in much the same way. Generally, take out the swab and moisten it with the dilution buffer, then insert it into the cat’s rectum to collect a sample, or take a sample directly from fresh stool.

After sampling, place the swab into the tube with sample dilution buffer and stir. Once well mixed, let it settle for one minute, then use the dropper to draw the clear liquid from the top and add two to three drops onto the strip’s sample window.

Wait about 5 to 10 minutes for the result. Two lines on the strip means the cat is infected with panleukopenia; a single line means the cat does not have it.
