Do rabbits need vaccinations?

Rabbits do need vaccines. There is a rabbit-specific combined vaccine that prevents pasteurellosis and rabbit viral hemorrhagic disease (rabbit distemper). These diseases are highly contagious and have very low cure rates, so rabbits raised in groups on farms and in multi-rabbit households especially need vaccination.

But if you only keep one or two pet rabbits, you may consider skipping vaccines, because the vaccine’s immunity lasts only 2 to 3 months and would require 2 to 3 shots per year. Rabbits are timid and sensitive animals, and frequent vaccination can easily stress them, possibly causing a stress response or affecting their physical and mental health and development.
