1 Parasitic and Allergic Conditions
Notoedric mange is a mite that spreads between cats, burrowing into skin to cause scaly crusts and intense itching, usually on the head, neck, and front legs; treat with the proper medication. Feline allergy syndrome can look alarming: a cat may bite itself until it bleeds, develop loose wrinkled skin, make odd sounds, walk with an odd gait, or even have seizures. 2 Serious Internal Diseases
Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is widely feared, but a positive coronavirus test does NOT mean certain death; only a specific mutation (under 2 percent) causes FIP, so be wary of any clinic that insists otherwise. Acromegaly comes from excess growth hormone, usually a pituitary tumor, enlarging the head and organs and linking to diabetes and heart disease, with no fully satisfactory treatment. Dysautonomia (Key-Gaskell syndrome) disrupts the nervous system, causing poor appetite, vomiting, no pupil response, a raised third eyelid, dehydration, and constipation; care only eases symptoms and quality declines.
